Greetings from the CSCCa National Office! I sincerely hope that you and your families are doing well and are staying healthy and safe during these unprecedented times due to COVID-19. Under normal circumstances we would be gathering together for our annual national conference at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The entire CSCCa staff will greatly miss seeing everyone this year. We prepare and look forward to the national conference all year long.
The 2020 CSCCa National Conference was an especially important one as it marks a major milestone for the organization with its 20th Anniversary Celebration. We had great activities, events, and speakers planned. Please know that we will be moving all of these special events and activities to the 2021 CSCCa National Conference which will be held May 5-7, in Fort Worth, Texas. We will be adding even more special activities and events for next year’s conference, making it even bigger and better. So you definitely don’t want to miss it. Please plan to join us for 3 packed days of fun, education, and camaraderie!
In an effort to adapt to the travel and social distancing restrictions we are all facing, we developed a 2020 Virtual CSCCa National Conference. It is scheduled to launch Thursday, May 7. Many of you have already signed up to participate. You can still participate even after the virtual conference launches. To sign up, please send an email to email@example.com and let the financial secretary know. There are 16 outstanding educational presentations.
As a reminder, five simple multiple-choice quizzes must be completed to earn the 15 CEUs that would have been awarded for attending the annual national conference in person. There are 16 presentations included, but you only have to complete quizzes for five of them to have your 15 CEUs automatically added to your account. You will have three months to review the presentations as many times as you would like.
This is different from the annual national conference where we gather together and enjoy live speaker presentations, but this format provides a great alternative for gaining important information regarding matters of direct relevance and importance for strength and conditioning coaches no matter what sport or gender athletes they coach. We are confident that you will find this to be a great alternative to the traditional national conference format. We sincerely hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity.
More information about the 2020 CSCCa Virtual National Conference is provided in this edition of CSCCa Monthly.
Also, please be aware that the annual Female Strength Coaches’ Breakfast is still taking place via Zoom on Friday, May 8, 2020, at 8:00am PT/9:00am MT/10:00am CT/11:00am ET. More information is provided in this edition of CSCCa Monthly, so be sure to check it out as well.
One final note, we are all concerned about protecting the health and safety of the athletes when they are allowed to return to campus. Some conferences have created committees to examine the issue and determine the best way to safely return their athletes to training and competition.
While there will be a variety of methods of return to training implemented, they should ALL be based upon the CSCCa and NSCA Joint Consensus Document: Safe Return to Training following Periods of Inactivity. This evidence-based document can be accessed from the home page of the CSCCa website (scroll down below the CSCCa sponsor banner) or at this link. More information about utilizing this document when athletes ultimately return to training can be found on the CSCCa website.
In addition, Coach Don Decker, MSCC and CSCCa Board Member, will be making a presentation regarding how to implement the two protocols that are explained in the document in a Virtual National Conference presentation entitled Living Inside the Boundaries. The CSCCa National Office will be mailing all Virtual National Conference participants a booklet with extremely helpful information developed by Coach Decker and his Committee, so it will be important to make sure the CSCCa National Office has your preferred mailing address on file.
Again, we will miss being together as an organization and a profession, but we look forward to meeting together in Fort Worth, Texas, next year. Stay safe and healthy!
