New Year’s Message from CSCCa Executive Director Dr. Chuck Stiggins

Best wishes from the CSCCa National Office! On behalf of the CSCCa Board of Directors, we extend our sincere hope that the New Year will be an extremely happy, healthy, productive, and prosperous one for each of you! May 2021 be our best year yet.  As I think back to where we were this time a year ago, we had no idea what 2020 would hold in store for us.  Undoubtedly, this past year was filled with many unexpected and unwelcome challenges.  Hopefully, we all learned, among other important lessons, not to take health, people, and opportunities for granted—opportunities such as our ability to gather together once a year as an organization and a profession for our annual national conference—to share ideas, philosophies, and camaraderie.

The CSCCa is rapidly approaching 21 years of promoting education, unity, and respect for and among strength and conditioning coaches of collegiate and professional athletic teams!   With my upcoming retirement from my position as Executive Director of the organization, I have reflected upon where we were 20+ years ago and where we are today.  For those of you who were practicing in the field in 2000, you are very aware of the significant progress we have made—not only as an organization, but also as a profession.  It is truly amazing what we have been able to accomplish by working together as a group of individuals with common goals.  We will be reviewing these accomplishments at the 2021 CSCCa National Conference where we will be celebrating the organization’s 20th anniversary.  All events and celebrations planned for last year’s national conference are being moved to the 2021 National Conference.  This is not, however, a time to sit back and rest upon our laurels.  It is time to roll up our sleeves and work even harder to move the profession and the CSCCa forward.

As we enter a New Year, there is no limit to what can be achieved if we continue to support the CSCCa and its goal of promoting strength and conditioning coaches of collegiate and professional athletic teams with athletic administrators and other athletic groups and organizations, as well as the media and the general public.  The new CSCCa Executive Team members will be announced in the coming weeks and months, and they will need your continued help and support.  It will be exciting to watch the organization and the strength and conditioning coaching profession soar to even greater heights!

As a reminder, the 2021 CSCCa National Conference will be held Wednesday, May 5, through Friday, May 7, 2021, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the Fort Worth Convention Center.  The annual MSCC Dinner & Ceremony will be the pinnacle of the organization’s 20th anniversary celebration. Please plan to be there to take part in this memorable and historic event! We have great speakers and activities planned for the conference. Click here to review the 2021 CSCCa National Conference Itinerary and be sure to check out the exciting speakers and topics on BOTH days of the conference. We strongly encourage you to plan to stay through the conference sessions which end at 1:30 p.m. on Friday as we have an outstanding speaker line-up that day as well as on Thursday, and you will not want to miss these instructive and highly relevant presentations.

We are currently in the SECOND year of the current 3-year CEU cycle, and it is important to stay on top of fulfilling your CEU requirements.  Please remember that attending the organization’s National Conference each year is the most effective and time efficient way to fulfill annual CEU requirements for maintaining SCCC Certification.  Attending the 2021 CSCCa National Conference will provide you with 15 of the required 45 CEUs, and attending the Gatorade Pre-Con from noon-3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 5th, will provide you with an additional 3.0 CEUs—for a total of 18 potential CEUs.

Following the Gatorade Pre-Con, Mondo will be sponsoring and hosting a fun and entertaining Footspeed Event and Competition.  In addition, the CSCCa will be holding its inaugural Black Strength Coaches Breakfast and Meeting on Thursday morning.  Please make plans now to attend the 2021 CSCCa National Conference which will truly be historic for all the reasons listed above.  Again, be sure to schedule your travel arrangements to allow you to enjoy ALL the national conference has to offer—including a vast exhibit hall featuring the latest products and innovations in the field.  We sincerely hope to see you in Fort Worth in May and encourage you to review all the important conference information included in this edition of CSCCa Monthly as well as the CSCCa website.
